Mineral Design Mini Bar Multi Tool
I tend to keep on eye on bits of bobs knocking around on Kickstarter, and some of the kit which has come from there – Stryd for example has been awesome. Here is a bike tool Kickstart – "Wow so what, it looks like a T-Bar" If I'm honest it's not so much the bar tool, as the chain tool which has led me to order this one!

Some people rage against saddle bags. Heck even Velominati has ruled against them with Rule #29. HOWEVER they are very useful and for some people, such as yours truly, who needs to over prepare CONSTANTLY, it's not so much of an option as a requirement. SO when something comes along which looks like it's going to be able to help slim down my saddle bag, or conversely help me to carry things, well I'm all ears.
Welcome the Mineral Designs Mini Bar Tool
Doesn't really look like much does it?
The Mineral Design Mini Bar Tool is welded steel tubing, with 6, ¼ inch Hex bits held inside the red casing, with the whole lot held together with a series of neodymium magnets
You can use the hex tools in three configurations, to increase torque (two options to keep from having to change hex'es all the while) and one position for speed. With the bits again held in place by neodymium magnets.
Obviously you can also swap out the 9 pieces included in the Kickstarter package for which ever bits you need on your bike.
So yes, the tool is svelte, well thought out, but lets be honest its not going to exactly set my world on fire. But the chain tool…that's the cool bit

Chain tools hopefully rarely get used. But its MORE space in the saddle bag, or a tendency to push in your back if you throw it in your pocket. It's the insurance policy you ever hope to need, so being able to hide it away somewhere to forget about is a great idea
Mineral Designs has simply made the chain tool into a cylindrical affair which will sit in BOTH a road bike, or a mountain bike bar end. Now that's a genius move. Although I can't help wonder what the weight difference between the two bar ends is. However on the same time, people also have unbalanced bars due to lights etc without issues
The guys at Mineral Design have a nice video, which really brings home the use, especially of the bar end caps
I suppose that the most relevant bit now is the Kickstarter Goal. They are looking for $20,000, and have just launched.
Their best deal, the Early Bird is $60 for both the Bar Tool and the Bar Chain tool, 175 of 200 remaining when I placed my order just. Their Kickrstart is here if you are interested
