Windows 7, 8, ten, & Vista - Default Programs

The Default Programs characteristic in Windows seven, 8, and Vista allows you to fix your default programs, file types, and autoplay settings.

Admission the Default Program feature by going to Start | Default Programs.

Windows 8 and 10 users type "Default Programs" in the metro screen.

There are four options on the main Default Programs window:

• Set your default programs
• Associate a file type or protocol with a program
• Change AutoPlay settings
• Set program access and reckoner defaults

Set your default programs

This menu allows you to choose your defaults by program.

1. Browse to the plan y'all want to brand your default for a detail function (due east.g. web browsing) and highlight it.
2. Click on Fix this program as default.
3. That program volition now be the default for the associated function. For example, if you lot want Firefox to be your default web browser, select Firefox and click on Set this plan as default.

1. Scan through your list of programs and select that programme.
2. Click Choose defaults for this plan.
3. A listing of file types associated with that program volition appear. Put a check in the box next to the file type that you want associated with that programme and click Save.
4. For example, if you wanted .mp3 files to open up with iTunes, select iTunes and click Choose defaults for this plan. Ringlet down to .mp3, identify a check in the box side by side to it, and click Save.

Associate a file type or protocol with a program

This menu allows you to change defaults by file type.

1. Coil to the file type y'all want to change and highlight information technology.
2. The default program will display in the upper correct-paw corner of this window. If you want to change the default, click on Change plan...

Change AutoPlay settings
